Cool Vest of DRDO and Scientoons

DRDO (Defense Research Development Organization), Jodhpur Rajasthan has designed a unique jacket. Normally Jacket means something you wear in the winters to keep you warm, but this jacket is different as it will keep you cool for 4-5 hours if you are in very hot climate facing temperature up to 45-46 Celsius. This cool jacket has got frozen coolants which can be used several times. It is a boon for the BSF jawans taking patrol spp. in the desert areas of Rajasthan bordering Pakistan. I met DRDO scientists in MITS, Lakshmangarh, Rajasthan.

I was attending "South African Science communication conference" which was being held in the Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I was in South Africa for the first t...ime so I was enjoying every second of my stay. Around 700 people from all over the world were participating. There was a Beach party in the evening near the sea shore. They played bhangra number, also chutney music and many people danced on that. I was wearing a Kurta so I was looking a typical Indian. There were few South African drummers, the moment saw me said "Great! So you are man from India, Come on and play these drums". They might have thought that every Indian is born Bismillah Khan or Amzad Ali Khan. I had never seen such huge drums in my life what to say of playing them. But drummers insisted that I should play the drums. What to do? I thought let me try and maximum will happen that I may not play those drums. I remembered and sought blessings of all 330 millions Gods of India and thought to join those drummers. Two persons put that heavy drum around my neck and I tried my best to play. I did well. Then I also had a chance to dance with the Arabian belly dancers. Party went up to very late in the night and every body was just relaxed and was living those moments.
Next day they started announcing the beach party awards. Many people won as best dressed person, best dressed couple and so on. One of my Indian friend also got the best dancer award. I was very upset as I did not get anything (Remember "Three Idiot" film that it hurts you the most when your own friend gets an award..) Finally they announced :"The Best Over all Beach Party Award" goes to ...............any guesses?????????? Some people cried for my name but by this time I had lost all the hopes but I am a positive person in my life, so still I had not given up. But I prepared more that If I don't win. But to my utmost surprise they announced my name and I ran to get the special award which was a real African drum. I proved that never give up in life, try and try and you may be a winner one day. I also proved that Indians are the best in the world and so is India.

I happen to meet Dr H.N.Dutta, a very senior scientist in National Physical Laboratory (NPL,CSIR), New Delhi who had visited Antarctica. Dr Dutta was a great fan of my scientoons so he said to me that he is planning to visit Antarctica again and it would be a good idea to display a scientoon there. I thought that why not to create a new scientoon on this occasion, but could not send it to Dr Dutta as I got very busy . Dr Dutta left for his 2nd Antarctic expedition. I felt very sad but sent a email to Dr Dutta that can I mail him a scientoon which I have specially made for this purpose. He said opening an attachment in Antarctica is not allowed as it cots a lot of money. But he said he will talk to the concerned authorities and would try to get the permission. Finally he managed the permission and opened the attachment, took the print out and displayed my scientoon in the Indian antarctic station MAITRI. It was a great day for me and thus we created the history.

ne day I got a mail from Dr Mukund Hambarde, Director General, Chhattisgarh State Council of Science and Technology at Raipur to visit and deliver a lecture in a conference
“Interaction between Traditional and Modern Technology”. I was surprised that who Dr Hambarde is. I wrote to him that I would certainly like to visit Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh as I had never seen this tribal state of India. I was told that Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh is doing a very good work in making a new capital of the state which will be unique. I got a reply very soon that I can be there and everything related to my visit will be taken care by Dr Hambarde. I also got to know that we met in Ahmadabad and he had also gifted me a copy of the book GEETA. Dr Hambarde suggested me that there is direct train from Lucknow to Raipur but it was taking more than 20 hours so I requested him that I can visit only by air. Dr Hambarde was very kind to say yes to my request.

I took a Jet airways flight to New Delhi and from New Delhi I changed my flight to reach Raipur. I was very curious to see the airport as I was landing there for the first time. I found it’s a small airport and one has to walk from plane to arrival lounge as it is very close. But on the right hand side a very new terminal was coming up which was looking far better than Lucknow’s new airport terminal. A young man named Jagat was there on the airport with my name placard. I met him and I boarded the car to reach to the place o my stay.  Roads were very ordinary and from airport instead of going towards the city we moved to away from it. The taxi driver was playing some rational songs at a low volume so I asked him that I like the music of Chhattisgarh very much and can he increase the volume. It was the first day of Navratrti so devi geet was being sung by a local singer who belongs to Raipur. The driver was very happy to tell me a lot about the place and the venue. After 20 minutes we reached to Institute which is meant of Pancahayti Raj training. A green and huge campus, very close to nature and nice weather I found there. I entered in the room which was very big, with nice furniture, AC and LCD TV which I was not expecting. I thought to have a cup of tea and then I met the organizing secretary of the conference Dr Tyagi. I was very keen to meet Dr Hambarde and he also came with a smile and lots of affection. He enquired about my stay and then we had a cup of tea. I came out of the guest house and had a long walk in the campus. Everywhere,  tribal touch was visible. On coming back I found a boy whose name was Bhojraj Dhangar. He w as making rangoli which was the symbol of Chhattisgarh State Council of Science and Technology and Vigyan Bharti an NGO which is fighting for creating relevance to our great Indian traditional knowledge. Dhangar was a real genius as his hand was working like a magic perfectly following the command and creating the rangoli. I congratulated him and thought that India is full of talents but how many get noticed and recognition. I had a very tasty and homemade food in the canteen of the campus which was made by the people, who were probably tribals. Again I had a walk in the campus which was totally calm and away from the hustle bustle of the city.
