I had the great honour of participating in the Science March organized by Regional Science City and UPASTA on February 26, 2010 as a part of the National Science Day 2010 celebration program. The march started from Regional Science City, Lucknow and ended at the same after going to Purania and Chandralok colony, Lucknow. I think it was very well planned, perfectly organized and made a superb impact. Here is the report of the function:

 

THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN SCIENCE MARCH ON 26.2.2010

Today on 26.2.2010 on the occasion of National Science Day Celebrations a huge SCIENCE MARCH was organized in which more than 1800 students of schools, slum areas and scientist from various scientific Institutions participated enthusiastically. During the flagged off Science March at Regional Science City at 9:00 AM Dr. Nitya Anand, Sr. scientist and Ex Director, CDRI told that by organizing of such kind of Science Awareness March people get a new thinking about Science and it is an opportunity for them to view the science from a different angle. He called upon the people to make Lucknow which is a Science City a clean, pollution free and a green city. In this Science Awareness rally various distinguished scientist from different scientific institutions like Dr. P. K. Seth from Biotech Park, Dr. D. S. Bhakuni, Dr. A. K. Saxena, Dr. P.K. Srivastava from CDRI, Dr. C.M.Nautiyal from BSIP, Dr. V.P. Sharma & Dr. Alok Dhawan from IITR and Dr. Shashi Dhawan from NRLC etc. were present.

Valediction ceremony of National Science Day celebrations was held today at 12.30 PM and Dr. N.C. Mehrotra Director, Birbal Sahani Institute of Palaeobotany was the chief Guest of the valedictory function. During his valedictory address Dr. Mehrotra appreciated the efforts of Regional Science City as well as other participating institutions in National Science Day for organization such kind of programmes. He hoped that by organization of this kind of programme a scientific message will go to the people.During his presidential address Dr. P. K. Seth informed that this years National Science Day celebrations was organized at Regional Science City, Lucknow in association with UPASTA and BIOTECH PARK, BSIP, CDRI, CIMAP, IITR, INSA, INS, NBRI, NASI, IACT & NRLC and the programme was fully successful.

At the end of the programme Dr. Mehrotra also distributed prizes to the winners. Microscopes were awarded by National Academy of Sciences India (NASI) to the participating schools in Science March such as Central Academy, Vikas Nagar, Lucknow, Dr. Virendra Swaroop Public School, Lucknow, Ramadhin Inter College, Babuganj, Daliganj, Lucknow, Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Niralanagar, Lucknow, Bal Nikunj Inter College, Aliganj, Lucknow, M.L.M. Montessori School, Lucknow. In all about 3000 students and teachers participated in the entire programmes held during the National Science Day Celebrations at Regional Science City. The list of results is enclosed with this news.


Project Coordinator of Regional Science City, Shri Samarendra Kumar informed that on the occasion of celebrations of National Science Day on 27.2.2010 a Special Science Film shows for the benefit of students will be organized and on 28.2.2010 a Super Cooled Show will be organized.  All are invited to attend these presentations.
